What is psychosis?

  • It is a medical condition where you: 

    • hear things that are not present

    • see things that are not present

    • believe things that are not true

 

What are psychotic disorders?  

  • A group of mental illnesses affecting around 3% of all Canadians, where psychosis is the main feature

  • A spectrum of illnesses with different severities

 

What are the signs of early psychosis?

  • The early signs of psychosis can be vague, but are recognizable when a pattern starts to show that changes the way that you think, feel, and act  

  • If you think you are experiencing psychosis, the earlier you speak to a trusted adult, the better

 

What increases the risk of psychosis and psychotic disorders?

  • The use of cannabis is proven to increase the risk of psychosis, especially: 

    • Using cannabis often

    • Using cannabis with a high THC content
