Learn the Signs of Schizophrenia and Early Psychosis

Recognizing the early signs of schizophrenia and psychosis can make a significant difference in a young person's life. Changes in thinking, emotions, behaviour, and social interactions often emerge gradually and can be difficult to understand.

Whether you are a student, educator, or school counsellor, learning to recognize the signs and knowing how to respond can help ensure that young people receive support as early as possible.

For Students

Learn about the signs of early psychosis, what to do if you're concerned about yourself or a friend, and where to find help and support.

For Teachers

Learn how to recognize changes that may indicate a student is struggling, how to respond in a supportive and trauma-informed way, and how to connect students and families with appropriate resources.

For School Counsellors

Access information on early identification, assessment considerations, school-based supports, referral pathways, and resources to help guide students and families.

The continuous involvement of family members and community throughout the process of supporting a student has been found to enhance the accuracy and speed of the diagnosis of psychosis or a psychotic disorder.
