Meet Our Board Members
The Board of Directors at the Schizophrenia Society NL are active supporters of our programs and services. We are truly grateful for the time, skills, and passion they bring to our mission.

Timothy Hierlihy
President
He is a general adult psychiatrist practicing in the eastern region of the NLHS. His interest in helping those with schizophrenia began when he first learned about the disorder as a MUN pharmacy student in the early 2000s. He works in the hospital inpatient setting, the general adult outpatient department and as a member of the Assertive Community Treatment Team. He joined the SSNL to contribute to their wonderful work for people with schizophrenia and their loved ones.

Liz Rowe
Vice President
She is a second-year psychiatry resident at Memorial University of Newfoundland and has a passion for working with people with severe and persistent mental illness. She completed a Bachelor of Philosophy at the University of New Brunswick and completed my medical degree at MUN. She joined the SSNL as a volunteer in 2022 and recently joined the board. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her friends.

Samantha Werry
Secretary
She currently works in the field of Child and Youth Care and is passionate about her work creating better outcomes for youth and families. Samantha is a strong advocate for trauma informed, strength-based, supportive services for all. Samantha is also a Certified ASIST Trainer (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).

Caroline Freake
Treasurer
She is a passionate mental health advocate and a Certified Peer Supporter from St. John's, NL. She graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Certificate in Criminology. With a keen interest in Social Work, Caroline aspires to attend Graduate School to further specialize in this field. Beyond academics, Caroline finds joy in reading books, playing the piano, or spending time gardening.

Christa Lee-Whalen
Chair of the fundraising committee
She has lived experience of psychosis and a spectrum of mental health disorders, including schizophrenia. She has been an active volunteer and Board member with the Schizophrenia Society of Newfoundland and Labrador for the past four years. She predominantly works behind the scenes to secure funding and help with the production of psychoeducational supports, as well as other initiatives that are important to the society. She is a firm believer in: "nothing about us without us”.

Robyn Cossitt
Board Director
She is a committed advocate of various community and mental health initiatives. She is passionate about supporting individuals with schizophrenia and psychosis and their loved ones and reducing barriers to accessing services. She has a Master of Arts in Religious Studies and is completing a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Robyn has been an active board member since 2020. In her spare time, Robyn enjoys crocheting and playing with her cats.

Dr.Khalid Jat
Board Director
I am a general adult and geriatric Psychiatrist and Associate Professor with the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University. I work at the Waterford Hospital, St. John. I am serving as member of the board of directors of the Schizophrenia Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Zachary Giovannini-Green
Board Director
I am a PhD candidate in Clinical Epidemiology at Memorial University. I also volunteer with the Society co-facilitating the Motivation Monday program as well as other initiatives. My interests in psychosis research include identifying pathways to care for accessing psychosis treatment for youth in the province and optimizing supports currently available for this population.
